It’s early morning and I can see a ray of light entering the room underneath the curtains. I know it’s time to wake up, sit and meditate. I do it every morning for 491 days now. I feel proud because this was not easy for me. Now is as normal as brushing my teeth, and necessary as a glass of water in the middle of the desert!
I started meditating many years ago, I had different teachers, in person and online, I did courses, used an app with guided meditations, I tried everything. But after a while I would leave it. It was never comfortable or joyful so I guess that was the reason for not being consistent with it.
Then in November 2021 I made the decision that before the end of the year I was going to be a daily meditator.
It all started with a interview to Tracee Stanley, an amazing yoga nidra teacher, whom I was following to work on my sleep. I bought her book ‘Radiante Rest’ and I saw she was being intervied by someone called Light Watkins. I listen to the interview and started following Light and his podcast ‘At the end of the tunnel’, nowadays ‘The Light Watkins Show
I then realized Light was a meditation teacher and that he had a specific method called the EASY approach, which is an acronim: E is for embrace, A is for accept, S is for surrender and Y is for yield to. I got really curios and entered what he calls the 7-day meditation kickstart. It’s a very simple 7 days introduction to meditation. And believet or not, I started that day and never stoped! I’m now a member of Light’s community ‘The Happiness Insiders’ and I even co-organize a book club inside the community.
From all Light’s teachings, and there are many, the most important teaching for me as a beguinner, was that we are not monkes, we are householders and for that reason we don’t have to meditate like monkes. We can seat confortable, in our bed or a chair, with our lowerback supported, legs strait or with our feet touching the floor. Eyes closed, breathing slowly and just letting our mind doing her thing. We just stay there, listening, and coming back to our breath everytime we realise we are lost in any kind of thought. And one day you feel that you are entering a quiet space, an empty clean space. It’s something between wakefulness and sleep, you feel your brain softening, and you realise you now got the key for something special that you want to feel again and again.
And here I am today, sitting once again. The entire house is asleep. This is my time, my quiet time. Silence around and inside. Pure joy.
A quiet time
Between the dawn and the daylight,
there is a quiet time
when the creatures of the night
scurry to their warm beds,
and creatures of the daylight
begin to yawn before getting out of theirs.
A quiet time when the world
seems so much at peace.

Where and when do you find your quiet time?
You can't imagine how grateful I am to read this. I was struggling with the same questions and discomfort. I feel the need to meditate, but I feel lost. I will follow your path and I want to thank you with all my heart 💗
Beautiful. Lovely to see your process, S. x
