In the last month, I've been participating in a challenge within the beautiful community of
. It's been an amazing and challenging experience. I skipped a couple of days, especially on weekends, because that's when I spend the whole day with my family. But overall, I'm so happy with the result and the consistency I've built for myself. I love to write, and I knew I would find something to say by following the prompts provided by and invited guests. What I didn't expect was to have art prompts or for my creativity to manifest in other ways. This entry is for day 27. The prompt was given by Rhonda Willers and was about considering the unknown possibilities for joy. That same morning, I watched a post on Instagram by the artist Carolyn Jenny Gavin, and I felt compelled to create this little jar with flowers.
Some time ago, during the pandemic, I started following ballet dancers and visual artists for the sake of my mental health. So every day, I would open my Instagram and delight myself with someone dancing or an artist painting or doing a tutorial for kids. It was absolutely fundamental for me to surround myself with beauty, even if I was confined to my house, just like the rest of the world. Until today the artists keep showing up in my feed and inspiring me.
Journaling used to be something I did on a daily basis. I have dozens of booklets from my time in the desert—excavation diaries that turned out to be personal diaries as well. Boxes full of them are at my house in Faro, waiting for me to go there and dig into my memories and past adventures. For now, I will keep searching for inspiration and creating a new kind of journal—one that is not limited to writing but includes other forms of expression that can challenge me in the best possible way.
If you would like to join the journaling challenge, follow
. It's an inspiring place to be!With love and joy,
Sofia
